Antalet nyintroduktioner är högt i Sverige och resten av världen. Vad säger det oss om börsen och framtida utveckling?

Från en av de bästa böckerna som skrivits om spekulation:

”Assume that money available to buy stocks is fixed, and that it depends to a significant degree on the money taken up by initial public offerings. Money to buy new stocks must come from somewhere. A good working model is that it comes from money that would otherwise be available to buy stocks that already exist. And that leads to a working hypothesis:

When IPO:s are numerous, little money is available to buy existing stock.

When IPO:s are few, much money is available to buy existing stock.

In fact, declines in IPO:s are highly bullish….Statistically speaking, the correlation between the change in the number of IPO:s in one year and the percentage change in the market next year is -36 percent – a strong negative association…”

Vad Niederhoffer & Kenner visar är alltså att när antalet IPO:s (nyintroduktioner) är högt utvecklas börsen sämre kommande period – och tvärtom. Vi har inte tillgång till så mycket data, men när vi plottar sambandet mellan antalet IPO:s i USA och utvecklingen för S&P500 kommande år från 2004 så ser sambandet ut att hålla. Det innebär i så fall att vi kan stå inför tuffare tider med tanke på att antalet IPO:s per slutet av maj 2014 var ca 60 % högre än föregående år. Som timing verktyg är informationen dock trubbig. Börsen kan toppa idag eller om ett år och sambandet skulle fortfarande hålla.
